What is the Employer Sponsored Visa?

Employer sponsored visas allow skilled workers (with a job offer and nomination by an Australian employer) to live and work in Australia, and in many cases get permanent residency.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for these visas, there are 6 main requirements for the applicant (see here those for the Australian employer):

  1. You need to nominate an eligible occupation from one of the relevant skilled occupation lists

  2. You must have a suitable Australian employer that is willing to sponsor you

  3. You will need at least 1 year of relevant study or work experience in the last 2 years, or at least 2 years of relevant work experience any time in your career

  4. You will likely need at least 4.5 IELTS overall (or equivalent)

  5. Depending on your visa subclass, your salary must meet the Australian market rate for your position, and no less than a minimum of $73,150

  6. Depending on your visa subclass, occupation and/or nationality, you may be required to undergo a skills assessment

Additionally, there are specific requirements depending on which type of employer sponsored visa you’re applying for (e.g. 482 visa, 186 DE, 186 TRT visa, 494 visa, or 407 visa)
