Here’s everything you need to know about the Subclass 100 Partner (Migrant) visa
What is a 100 Partner Visa?
The subclass 100 Partnership Visa is a permanent visa that allows you to live/work/study in Australia.
To apply, you must be the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen (see other requirements).
You apply for this visa at the same time as the 309 Partner (Provisional) Visa, and it won't get assessed until at least 2 years after the application (unless you've been living together or married for 2-3+ years).
This visa is sometimes also known as the "permanent offshore partner visa".
What a 100 Partner Visa in Australia does
You apply for the permanent 100 Visa application at the same time you apply for the temporary 309 Visa.
In most cases, 2 years after you first applied for the "first stage", temporary 309 Visa, you will be invited by Immigration to provide documents for the permanent 100 Visa. Exception: If you have been married or in a de facto relationship for 3+ years (or instead for only 2+ years if have a child together), you may get your 100 visa approved at the same time as your 309 visa.
Once your 100 Visa is granted, you will be an Australian permanent resident who can live, work and study in Australia permanently!
You can also:
-
Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want within 5 years (after which you'll need a simple Resident Return visa to continue having travel rights)
-
Live, work and study in Australia indefinitely
-
Sponsor certain family members to come to Australia
-
Apply for Australian citizenship once eligible
-
Attend free English language classes provided by the Adult Migrant English Program if you are eligible
-
Apply for access to Australia's public health care scheme, Medicare
What is the Processing time for 100 Partner Visa?
Here are the average processing times (does not include the 2-year waiting time for eligibility) according to the Department of Home Affairs (eff. Jan 2023):
25% of applications processed in: 6 Months
50% of applications: 13 Months
75% of applications: 17 Months
90% of applications: 33 Months
This is an approximate processing time and it can be longer in some cases, particularly if the application is incomplete or requires further assessment.
Since 2015, we’ve often been able to help our customers get their visas approved much faster than the average processing time! Hear it from our customers directly:
